<<Back to all Special Programs Bioness FES is a dynamic orthoses system incorporating electric stimulation to simulate normal muscle function. Bioness has two FES orthoses – one for the arm and one for the ankle. They are used when impaired movement has occurred due to a stroke or other neurological condition. This technology taps into the neuroplasticity of the nervous system (as is described in our Philosophy of Neurological Rehabilitation) to retrain the use of the hand for grasp and release and retrain the ankle muscles to minimize foot drop. These tasks are two of the more difficult functional tasks to return after a stroke, but with the use of the Bioness FES orthoses, functional return can come more quickly. |
