At AristaCare at Cedar Oaks, our primary focus is to rehabilitate each patient to their highest function level possible. Aside from traditional therapy, we have a complete Therapeutic Recreation department which works to accomplish these same goals. One of the tools we use to do this is the Nintendo Wii gaming system. We use the Wii system as a training tool to increase range of motion, train balance, increase endurance, and promote better general physical and mental health. Under the supervision of a therapist, the patient works on specific goals, but views the rehab as extra curricular entertainment. Virtual reality tools such as the Wii are used by both the therapy & activity staff. This is just one of the many examples of how we incorporate non-traditional therapy/exercise approaches along side proven traditional approaches.
